Thank You for your interest in the Auxiliary to the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department. We are always looking for volunteer members, like you, who can spare a few hours a month to help their community. There are no set hours, no strenuous work and no experience or affiliation with the fire department is needed---just the desire to help raise funds that in turn help the community as a whole.
What do we do to raise these funds?
Selling food and beverages at weekly Friday Night Bingo sponsored by the Fire Department does most of our fund raising. We also are involved in several annual events including the 4th of July and Fall Festival Concession Booths, and our participation in the Chocolate Lover's Festival with our Craft Show, Bake Sale and Food Booth and Friendship Raffle. We are very proud of the fact that our small group raises thousands of dollars every year, and that is donated to the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department. The funds are used to purchase and maintain life-saving fire and rescue equipment for Stations 3 and 33.
But I don't have time to volunteer!
We realize that most people work outside the home and have families to care for. Even our retired members have full schedules to contend with and all it takes is 3 to 5 hours to work a Friday night Bingo once a month. Also, there is no requirement to participate in all of our events. Sometimes we just need someone to cut up vegatables or bake a cake or brownies for an event. Every little bit helps!
We have fun and we feel good too!
We really do have fun and make some lasting friendships! We have a great time interacting with others in the community and each other. There's something about the feeling that you're actually helping others that makes you feel good inside.
